Once you've authenticated, each system you go to can be configured to request a token from AD FS to confirm you have already been successfully authenticated and the system then automatically logs you in because it trusts the token from AD FS. Alternately, you can trust other providers such as Facebook or Twitter etc. which can also issue tokens and users can be authenticated to your organisation automatically by being authenticated first by Facebook etc.
